How do I go about designing golf courses?

I believe my true calling in life is to design golf courses, or at least work with those who do the design of golf courses.

I have a background in Civil Engineering so I understand the importance of drainage and storm water detention.

Just wondering if anyone out there can give me a little direction.

Thanks in advance.|||The design of a golf course requires collaboration between many disciplines. This involves mostly civil engineers and landscape architects.

As you stated, civil engineers are mainly responsible for designing the drainage of the overall site. They will also be responsible for land reclamation and geotechnical assessments.

On the other hand, the landscape architects are responsible for designing the contours of the site in order to tailor for the varying difficulties of the holes of the course, as well as the placement of lakes and trees.

Having said all that, I doubt that golf design companies directly employ civil engineers, rather they employ the landscape architects. They in turn offer contracts with consultancies for the design of the infrastructure, such as the drainage works and road access.

I might be wrong. I highly suggest you contact golf design companies: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en%26amp;source=hp…

I hope this helps and I wish you the very best with your future career.
